I made it through the day, I’m done right?
WRONG! Just as it is extremely important to stretch a muscle before exercise, it is equally as important to stretch at the end. The same is true for your vocal cords.
How do vocal cords work?
Your vocal cords are muscles inside your larynx (voice box) that open while breathing and close while speaking. Per second, your vocal cords come together about 100-200 times. That can add up to millions of times per day for teachers who have to talk for many hours. All of that contact can cause normal wear and tear on the voice, so giving your voice a cool down is just as important as the warm-up.

If your vocal cords are not properly cared for, you can cause temporary and sometimes permanent vocal damage.
