Virtual Pioneer Day Field Trip for Second Graders
As part of the "History Long Ago" unit, the second-grade classes experienced a virtual Pioneer Day by exploring an array of items from "long ago" courtesy of the Troy Historical Museum. Students demonstrated different activities while a presenter from the Village was visible on each classroom's BenQ board. The representative from the Village taught the students through pictures and demonstrations about pioneer life in a one-room schoolhouse and log cabin. The students experienced carrying a yolk on their shoulders with buckets of water at each end. The children also tried their hand at churning butter and playing with different wooden toys such as Jacob's Ladder, a Jumping Jack, and the ball in the cup game.
