Art from the Heart
Established in 2002, the Art from the Heart program is a collaboration between Friends of the Arts (FOA) and Children’s Hospital of Michigan to provide beautiful student artwork for the Healing Arts program at the hospital. The Art from the Heart program began with the vision of Elizabeth Mezzacapo, Detroit Country Day School Lower School faculty member, and Erin O’Mara, a former volunteer at Children’s Hospital of Michigan and current Community Relations Manager for the hospital.
Each year at the annual FOA sponsored Celebrate the Arts event, student artwork is selected by a hospital representative. The art piece is then framed by FOA and donated by the student to the hospital as part of their Healing Arts Program.
As ambassadors of this event, FOA helps to organize an honorary ceremony to display the selected artwork and recognize the student-artists at a special reception hosted at Children’s Hospital. With over 465 pieces of our students’ artwork donated to decorate the walls of Children’s Hospital, FOA looks to continue this partnership and expand to other area hospitals.
