Our College Counseling team dedicates their time to providing individualized attention to each student as they navigate the challenges of high school and the college application process. Through various assessments and meetings with the students and their parents, our counselors help students enroll at colleges where they will mature and emerge to lead productive and satisfying lives. Our counselors take pride in matching a student to colleges that meet the student’s unique profile.
Starting in freshman year, our Coordinator for Early High School Success meets with students to help ease the transition to high school and learn more about their interests. These interactions also offer students information on the multitude of opportunities available to them to gain real-world experience and discover more about themselves. This guidance continues through sophomore year.
In the junior and senior years, students and their parents meet regularly with one of our three College Counselors to gain a deeper understanding of the student’s needs and aspirations. They also help the student stay on task in terms of taking entrance exams, encouraging college visits, and continuing to immerse themselves in opportunities to help build a favorable student profile.
College is a match to be made not a prize to be won.
The team hosts grade specific information nights for parents and students to go over the critical milestones important for the given year.
Each year DCDS hosts over 120 college representatives to inform our students and build working relationships with our counselors.
The College Counseling office hosts a series of coffees open to all Upper School parents to provide extra information and resources to assist with the entire college process.
Counselors and guest speakers conduct workshops relevant to the specific grade level and covering topics such as internships, essay writing, interview skills, and more!
Students and parents work closely with their college counselor to address concerns, decide on priorities, and develop a plan for the college admissions process.
All of our counselors hold master's degrees and have worked on both sides of the college admissions process and have a combined experience of over 95 years!
