TRUSTEE VOICES

Twice each month, we ask a member of the DCDS Board of Trustees to answer a series of questions, including what drew them to Detroit Country Day School, what they value most about our community, and their hopes for the future. The goal of this feature is to allow our community to better get to know the incredible professionals who dedicate their time and talents to our school.

Calvin Ford is the Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Pentastar Aviation and the Chairman of Livingston Football Club in the United Kingdom. He and his wife, Sarah, are the joyful parents of three children: Eli ‘32, Nell ‘35, and Walker.

What inspired you to get involved with Detroit Country Day School as a trustee?

There is very little (if anything) that is more important than the education of our children.  To be given an opportunity to serve as a trustee, to me, is being given an opportunity on an intimate level to serve the educational needs to my children.  It's a no-brainer.

What do you love or admire most about the DCDS community?

More than any other competitive, college preparatory school in our area, DCDS embraces diversity and inclusion on a separate level of excellence.  Everyone, from the faculty and administration to the parents and students, embraces the collective community and accepts people regardless of background.  I truly appreciate that about DCDS.

What is one DCDS tradition, event, or moment that stands out for you?

Celebrating Beverly Hannett-Price's 67 years as a Guinness Book world record will forever be an incredibly memory.  The school came together to celebrate someone who has given so much back to so many people.  I believe the event served as an incredible representation of what the schools is all about, and how we are an incredible community of caring.

What piece of advice would you give to current DCDS students?

Don't take your education at DCDS for granted.  It is the foundation for all of your future successes both as a person and as a professional.

When you’re not working or volunteering, how do you like to spend your time?

There's life beyond work and volunteering?  :)  I love being with my family, specifically doing anything outside.

What is one hope or goal you have for the future of DCDS?

To continue to be a beacon of exceptional academia and a place where students can come to truly be sound in mind and body.  To help young men and women establish a foundation of purpose, giving back, generosity, and camaraderie amongst their fellow classmates.

Thank you, Mr. Ford, for your service to Detroit Country Day School!
