Friends of the Arts

The general purposes and objectives of Friends of the Arts is to support and promote the Fine and Performing Arts curriculum, activities and programs of the students attending Detroit Country Day School, and to encourage the continued development and growth of a nationally recognized Fine and Performing Arts program.  The Friends of the Arts Association encourages support of endeavors and programs through active annual membership by parents, friends, alumni, employees and students, and additional contributions.

Celebrate the Arts

Each spring, Detroit Country Day School demonstrates its commitment to the fine arts with the annual Celebrate the Arts festival in April. The free festival includes traditional art mediums such as dramatic and musical performances, painting and sculpture as well as newer mediums including digital media. The performances and the artwork are the creation of Detroit Country Day School students, ranging in age from 3 to 18. Hands-on activities for children are also offered during the festival.

Each year during Celebrate the Arts, Detroit Country Day School invites Children’s Hospital of Michigan’s art curator to the event to choose student artwork for donation to the hospital. Detroit Country Day School’s Friends of the Arts Association provides the grant to frame the pieces and they are then delivered to the hospital in the fall for installation.  See photos from this year's event.
