Lower School Athletics

The Detroit Country Day School motto, Mens Sana In Corpore Sano (A Sound Mind in a Sound Body) is the hallmark of both the Lower School’s physical education program and the Junior Jacket Sports Program. With the two programs working together, students are able to explore a wide range of activities that encourage the development of gross motor coordination, visual motor coordination, muscle strength, endurance and social skills, along with teamwork, sportsmanship, responsibility, and enthusiasm for athletics. Each program fosters these qualities in the belief that early familiarity and understanding of these traits contribute to growth and success as elementary students mature into adolescence.

While the Junior Jacket Sports Program is intended to provide students in the Lower School an opportunity to enhance their athletic experiences, this program is also available to children who do not attend Detroit Country Day School. Each year, more than 1,200 children, ages 4 to 12, from Detroit Country Day School and its surrounding community participate in the Junior Jacket Sports Propgram.

The Junior Jacket Sports Program offers the following camps: baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, field hockey, golf, ice hockey, martial arts, soccer, speed stacking, and volleyball. Along with its camps, the program hosts a basketball and flag football league.
