A Message from the Alumni Office

The DCDS Alumni Network group on LinkedIn launched in April and has already proven to be very successful in connecting alumni. Job and internship connections have been established from utilizing this network. Make sure you log into your LinkedIn account and join the group. Don’t forget to save the date for the DCDS Homecoming events on October 12, 2013.  This year, instead of  the alumni food tent, alumni will enjoy a special brunch in the warm and rain free Shaw Lobby before the game. We will follow the DCDS tradition that evening as we host the Class Reunions for all graduating classes that end in three or eight. The Class of 2008, however, will enjoy their five year reunion separately over the Thanksgiving break in November.

As always, please update your contact information with me if you move or change your email address. Also, please let me know of any educational, work, or personal accomplishments you experience. I want to make sure to share your success with your fellow DCDS alumni. I look forward to hearing from you.

Save the Date! 2013 Homecoming and Class Reunions

Classes highlighted for the reunions end in a 3 or an 8 but anyone is welcome to join us, you just need to be sure to RSVP when the email invitations go out. And, as has been our custom, we'll celebrate the five year reunion of the Class of 2008 on Friday, November 29th.

All alumni and their families will be invited to join us for brunch in Shaw Lobby of the Thirteen Mile Campus (Upper School) before the game and then the traditional crafts, inflatables, and half-time races during the game. The pre-game brunch will replace the alumni tent usually set up during the game.  We look forward to seeing you!

Best Wishes to Coach Keener

As many have already heard, history teacher, U/S athletic director, and varsity men's basketball coach, Mr. Kurt Keener has moved to sunny Arizona. He has decided to continue his stellar coaching career at Desert Mountain High School in Scottsdale, Arizona. The DCDS community and the state of Michigan will certainly miss the impact he has made here, but wish him the best as he starts this new chapter in his life

Courtney B. Vance '78 Wins a Tony for Lucky Guy

While Courtney was visiting his alma mater DCDS on April 22, 2013, Mrs. Beverly Hannett-Price predicted that her former student would win a Tony for his latest show on Broadway, Lucky Guy.  On June 9, 2013,  her prediction came true and Courtney did indeed win a Tony for best featured actor in Lucky Guy.  Courtney plays Harp Harrison the editor for main character, Mike McClary, played by Tom Hanks. Congratulations Courtney!  See a short video from his visit.

Shane Battier '97 Adds Another NBA Championship to His Career

Congratulations to Shane for adding another championship title to his outstanding basketball career. He was key to winning Game 7 in the NBA Finals. Shane contributed 18 points in 29 minutes by hitting 6 of 8 three point shots. He continues his winning ways through his cerebral approach to the game and by providing the character qualities needed to make team chemistry work. As demonstrated by the activity on twitter, DCDS alumni always find it fun to watch him play and take pride in calling him a DCDS alumnus. See USA Today story and MLive.com.

Vashi Nedomansky '88 Relishes Film Editing in Hollywood

At 12 years old,  Vashi started filming with an unwieldy VHS video camera recording family vacations and creating classroom projects.  He studied film and video production at the University of Michigan, but spent his first ten years post college playing professional hockey.  Once he retired from hockey he returned to film editing. Vashi did not initially have much to his credit in the field of editing, but he spent quite a few years perfecting his trade and building connections.  His first lucky break came with an editing opportunity for David Zucker (Naked Gun, Airplane!).  From there he has nurtured and grown a respected reputation in Hollywood.  See full interview with Twain Richardson.  You can also sample some his works on his blog www.VashiVisuals.com
